Day Trip to Universal Studios Japan (Osaka) Part I: The Beginning

Getting to Universal Studios Japan > Universal Studios Japan

The crowd at Universal Studios Japan (Osaka) on a weekday morning

Being stationed in Kyoto, we made our way to Osaka early in the morning. The journey was relatively long (about an hour and a half) but it was pretty straight forward (e.g. we managed to find our way and did not get lost) and worth it since we had the JR Pass.

When we arrived at the theme park at around 10 in the morning, there was a moderate (manageable) crowd. The park usually opens between 8:30am and 9:30am and closes between 7:00pm and 9:00pm with the longer hours on weekends and public holidays; depending on the seasons. So do remember to check the official website to confirm the opening and closing times, and which attractions are closed etc...

Look at all those people! Don't be daunted though, the theme park is big and after the entrance the crowd disperses more evenly. 😀

Since there is quite a bit to blog about and lots of photos, it will be split into 4 parts:
  1. The overall experience / intro
  2. The rides and show
  3. The food and mascots
  4. The Animation Celebration (Hollywood) Parade

Universal Studios Japan (ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン), is located in Osaka, and is one of 4 Universal Studios theme parks. The attractions are located in about 8 areas of the theme park, namely (in no particular order):
  1. Amity Village
  2. New York
  3. Hollywood
  4. San Francisco
  5. Jurassic Park
  6. Minion Plaza
  7. Universal Wonderland
  8. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

We managed to do and see quite a bit of things (not to mention a little souvenir shopping), eat theme park food and seeing all the mascots (and their meet and greets)! We even managed to catch the parade and one show – The Animation Celebration (Hollywood). [Watch it here]

Conclusion: All in all, it was an eventful fulfilling day at the theme park. After dinner (which was minion themed), we made our way back to our AirBnB accommodation in Kyoto. Not too shabby I would say. Of course, not being able to visit the Harry Potter World only makes it more propelling to go back again in the future!
