Makansutra Gluttons Bay

Being Singapore's premier performing arts venue the Esplanade has a unique architecture that resembles the thorny fruit, the durian. Here at this performing arts venue is the Makansutra Gluttons Bay, a hawker center which operates from 5 in the evening to early hours of the morning and comprises of a handful of vendors selected by Makansutra Guide to set up a stall there for their excellent versions of classic hawker food. It is located just beside the Esplanade and i think it is even on some guide books as I saw tourists comparing the place with a book they were holding in their hands.

A few of my friends decided to have our dinner here one day for one of our gatherings. And so we gathered and ate till we could eat no more. It was only my 3rd time coming to this place, the other two times with my relatives who visited. Considering the location, the prices are a tad expensive  for hawker fair, but I guess if they were "assembled" for their excellent versions of classic hawker food, it is worth coming here once in a while.

The satay was nice and juicy, and had flavor it was well-marinated and not hard and dry. And the peanut sauce which has some chilli in it was not spicy at all. As the satay stall was halal we had beef, chicken and mutton satay. The Chilli Crab's sauce was nicely done, not too sweet and not too spicy. it went very well with the fried mantous (plain buns). The only gripe I have was that the crab used was flower crab, which has very little meat, either that or you have to be an expert at eating crab, which unfortunately I am not. Usually someone de-shells it for me before I eat it and that day was the first time actually attempting to eat and de-shell at crab by myself. It was a very messy affair with sauce on both hands. I think I prefer eating the crabs at East Cost. The fried prawn noodles and fried egg with oyster were yummy as well.

Satay - marinated, skewered and grilled meat, served with a peanut based sauce

Chilli Crab - in this case it was flower crab fried with a semi-thick, sweet and savory chilli sauce
