On our second visit to
Hongdae, we literally stumbled upon the
Hello Kitty Café. Why we didn’t notice it earlier on our first visit? Oh right, that’s because DramaQueen was adamant about visiting the restaurant -
Pal Ja Mak Chang (팔자막창). That and after my
Hello Kitty experience in Taipei, I thought there was no need to specifically visit another one (since the theory is if you seen one, you’ve seen them all, right?). Well, that just goes to show how wrong I was. Either that or I was just in the mood for being ‘kittified’. I guess somewhere in there I do like (note: like not adore, not fanatical, not crazy) adorable
Hello Kitty and pink, as long as it is in moderation and depending on mood (or maybe I’m just in denial). However, in this case it was a little ‘kitty’ overdose but it’s alright... I survived ha.

Anywhere, anything Hello Kitty? Than you are at the right place |
So back to the story, whilst walking and a little shopping on a cold spring’s night, something pink caught our eye. It actually took us a good 30 seconds or so to actually realize that it was the
Hello Kitty Café (it was at night) and decided to go in. One of the reasons why I thought that it wouldn’t be worth the visit (hence, not making any specific plans to visit this café) was that the video review by
EatYourKimchi was a little underwhelming (with graffiti on the pink walls).
Well, to say the least, the walls have been cleaned of the vandalism and given the place a fresh pink coat of paint. So it was more a less a
Hello Kitty experience. It did help that there was complimentary Wi-fi too. So, the experience was better than expected.

With that said, don't say you weren't warned: upon entering this pink building, be prepared to have your senses ‘assaulted’ with a pink onslaught (that is if you cannot handle pink) otherwise you would be pink ‘heaven’ or somewhere in between (the video above would be a good indicator the pinkness).

Wait awaits you on the first floor... Hello Kitty shaped holes in the wall! ^^ |
|
and autographs.... |
Compared to the
outlet in Taipei, this
Hello Kitty Café is truly a café, as it only serves pastries, cakes, and drinks (no meals, but they do have adorable
Hello Kitty waffles) and is even more pink than its
Taipei counterpart (just look at the photos!). But just like its
Taipei counterpart, this
Hello Kitty Café also sells kitty merchandise for the hardcore (?) fans!
|
Cups, keychains, shirts, necklaces, bracelets, plushies etc... Everything Hello Kitty! |
|
What's left... which is not much really |
|
The waffle we wanted, but did not get to eat :( |
Being late at night, there weren’t much customers, nor were there any adorable
Hello Kitty waffles left (which almost instantly left DramaQueen in ‘sad’ mode, I was just a teeny bit disappointed). As a result, we just settled for a plain cup of yogurt with blueberry topping (in a
Hello Kitty cup no less). Hey, at least there were more photo opportunities for both the first and second floors.
|
What awaits you on the second floor?.... on the way up |
|
Casual seats and.... |
|
a more 'luxuriously' pink seats/sofas corner (also on the second floor) |
|
Panoramic view of the more comfortable seats (no guessing where we chose to sit) ^^ |
|
Want some water, straws or stirrers? Just help yourself to them! :) |
|
Overlooking the stairway from the first to the second floor |

Kitty yogurt |
Do remember that you are paying for Hello Kitty, so prices aren’t exactly cheap, but definitely worth the kitty experience (at least once).
Last but not least, how could I forget the kittified restroom? It is truly even more pink and
Hello Kitty than its
Taipei counterpart.
|
Located on the second floor, the restroom is also a Hello Kitty experience |
|
What awaits you... will it be just pink tiles? |
|
Pink tiles aside, it is Hello Kitty galore! From mirror to door! |
Would I come back again? Sure I would, to at least try the
Hello Kitty shaped waffles and (mostly caffeine)
Hello Kitty sprinkled drinks. However, do stay away if all that pink and
Hello Kitty make you nauseous. ^^
For more information visit the
Hello Kitty Cafe website (but it’s mostly in Korean)
For more kitty photos and the address/how to get there you can check out t
