Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima (Japan)

Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima was one of the hotel that SA Tours arranged for us during our packaged tour. Situated in the business district, Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima is within (2 - 5 km) the vicinity of local attractions such as Kagoshima City Library, Kagoshima Citizens' Culture Hall, Kagoshima Botanical Garden and Museum of the Meiji Restoration. The hotel also has 2 onsens which are mixed, in order to bath the attire would be your normal swimming suit.

The room that we got was somewhat dated (in decor),  it was clean and comfortable, and seemed to have undergone some sort of update in recent years (probably within the last 10-15 years?).

The bathroom, however, could have gone through an update: the cheap beige plastic fittings did not match the warm, modern decor of the room.

The lighting also could have been brighter, it was more dim than I would have liked so putting on makeup was a bit of a challenge, let along trying to read a book at night.

The amenities were sufficient and well thought out:
  • In-room slippers were of good quality and quite comfortable too.
  • Towels and hangers were ample.
  • Bathroom amenities included toothbrushes, razors, cotton buds etc...

Despite the unsatisfactory lighting and mismatched (cheap looking) bathroom, the room was comfortable and amenities were replenished promptly. The beds were comfortable and the view was simply stunning. We had a balcony with a view of the sea (port) / ocean and Sakurajima Volcano!

Conclusion: Considering the rating for this hotel (which is supposed to be 4 stars), it is luxury alright, but dated. It would have been better if it were updated to keep up with the times to enhance the experience. It was good for the 1 night we stayed, but if given the option I would definitely stay somewhere else. Still if you are willing to forgo the decor and ambiance, if the price is right than this might be what you are looking for because of its onsens and stunning ocean / volcano views.

Do note that Best Western Rembrandt Hotel Kagoshima is around 15 minutes away from the Kagoshima-Chuo railway station via taxi (costs around 2,000) and not walking distance to the center of town (you'd have to take a taxi).
