<< Changdeokgung Palace (창덕궁) and Secret Garden Tour
The last time we were in Seoul we had Korean porridge almost everyday, so how could we not have Korean porridge this trip? Thankfully we spotted a 본족 & 비빔밥 (Porridge & Rice) Café while on the way to Changdeokgung Palace (창덕궁), and so we decided that that would be our dinner after the Secret Garden Tour. Well actually, we wanted to have it for brunch, but there were too many people (the seating capacity was really small, accommodating only 20 people or so).

본족 (Porridge) Café |
Unlike the Lotte branch, this outlet near the exit of Anguk Station did not have many variety of porridge and only served porridge (unlike it's Lotte counterpart which also sold bibimbap and mandos). Should have realized that when I saw the cafe name, which only stated porridge and not mention of 비빔밥 (rice). Despite that, I guess the craving for Korean porridge was satisfied.
The interior of the cafe at around 5 in the evening which seemed to be a 'quiet' time. |
should be translated as "delicious healthy porridge" |
As with almost all restaurants and cafes in South Korea, the banchan (side dishes) and plain water are complimentary and free-flow. The prices of the porridge ranged from about 8,000 won to 15,000 won.
Seafood kimchi porridge with the yummy sides |
Beef porridge with the appetizing sides. Our meal with a complimentary cup of apple juice too (top right corner) |
With our tummies filled, we decided to head over to the nearby Bukchon Village to wile the time away before it was time to meet up with our (ex)Korean language teacher at Noryangjin Fish Market for supper.
