My very own perfume! |
While searching for something different to do in Seoul this time round, I stumbled across 'experiences' on Airbnb. A little more
What are 'experiences'? Well, they are essentially excursions or other activities designed to offer a unique access and interaction to the city.
AROMIND was founded by an aromatherapist named Lisa in 2014, and her perfume workshops enable participants to make their very own perfume! 😀
We wanted the time slot for 6:30pm, and so AirBnB it was. The workshop cost us S$75 each, but I think it is still quite worth it as not only is it located in the Bukchon Hanok Village in a nice cozy modern hanok that doubles up as the studio where the workshops are held, but we also received:
- Free tea 🍵
- Perfume Package: 12ml Perfume (Sample) + 50ml Perfume + Gift Box 💝 + Bag
It was really easy to get to AROMIND based on Lina's directions from Anguk Station; less than 10 minutes. |

From the moment we entered AROMIND, it was like we were being transported into another dimension: the soothing tones with a hanok ceiling made of wooden beams, and the big window panels encompassing the workshop area made it very inviting and cozy.
There were only 3 people during our workshop that day, but it was a fun filled and knowledge packed workshop. We even made a new friend from Taiwan, and got to know Lina a little better as well! 😊
The workshop started off with the introduction to the basic components of perfume. We were given the opportunity to sniff our way through a choice of 30 different scents (i.e. base, middle and top scents), and select the 3 (one base, middle and top scent) that we liked the most. It was interesting to learn that the alignment and position of the strips affected (i.e. base, middle and top scents) the smell: the higher the strip the strong the scent would be compared to the lower strips / scents. Tools to accomplish the task of creating a unique perfume were provided as well.
All the different scents in bottles and Lina's own alcohol brew / perfume base which is to be mixed together with the concocted scents 😁 |
The class was a cozy one (does not not more than 8 people), so it helped with the process of concocting our own perfume as sufficient attention and advise was provided. Scents are broken down into top, middle, and base notes, and all we had to do was follow the instructions of the Lina. If we got 'lost' along the way, Lina was on hand to assist us in determining the best ratio for the scents we had chosen; making the process fun, seamless and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you Lina! 👏👏👍

Once we were sure that the test / sample version was what we wanted, we had a choice between 3 different designs of 50ml perfume bottles to put in our creation to bring home!
The different type of bottles we could choose from, the equipment, green tea and a can of coffee beans to help your nose make sense of the scents if it gets a little too overwhelming 😀 |
