Xin Wang Hong Kong Café (Orchard Cineleisure)

Xin Wang Hong Kong Café has many branches throughout Singapore. On its website, it states that there are more than 10 branches in Singapore alone. Now that is a lot of branches. This café serves up street favorites from Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai and Singapore. According to its website, there are over 200 items on the menu, ranging from local Singapore favorites, tim sum and tea-time snacks to the best of the Cantonese restaurants and typical Hong Kong café dishes.

Had late dinner (or was it supper?) at this café at its Orchard Cineleisure branch after the Frankeweenie premiere. Despite the peak hour and crowd, service was prompt and efficient. We were quickly ushered to our seats, and they kindly accommodated us when we wanted to switch to the more comfortable booth seats.

My friend, M, and I had the recommended (on the menu) Pork Chops and Cheese Baked Chicken Spaghetti respectively. The Cheese Baked Chicken Spaghetti was nicely done: the cheese was soft-melty cheesy goodness and crisp on the outside where it had been baked, the chicken was not dry (in fact it was quite moist and well flavored), and the spaghetti was not overcooked, complimenting the dish overall in a tomato based sauce. Just thinking about it now is making me slightly hungry already.

Iced Barley Drink
Iced barley served in metal cups, which made it an interesting experience. How often you get to drink from a metal cup?
While the food was commendable and the pricing reasonable (average cost of a main is S$10++ upwards), I have to say that this is the noisiest café I have been to; it reminded me of the school canteen with all the chattering going on at the surrounding tables. But that is to be expected I guess, as Orchard Cineleisure is a hangout place frequented by the youth. In addition to its vibrant clientele, there is the accompaniment of retro Chinese (and Korean?) hits in the background to the on-going chit-chatting. So if you are allergic to noise and want to dine in peace, you might want to give this café a miss (or try the other branches). Otherwise, it makes a pretty good place to dine, given its vibrant and energetic vibe.
