Top 5 Fun & Family Friendly London Theatre Shows

London’s West End theatre has been drawing in audiences from all over the world for over a century. With so many high class, high energy productions to choose from it can be difficult when deciding which one is for you. Therefore we have focused on making a list of shows that are jam packed with fun for all the family.

Singin’ in the Rain 

This classic musical from Hollywood’s golden era is a hit with audience members of all ages! Set in the 1920’s, the show has all the romance, glitz and glamour anyone could ask for in a musical. The show boasts fantastic, vibrant big show numbers such as the title song itself, which has ensemble members dancing in water with large colourful umbrellas. Adults will love the golden age feel whilst kids will love the water splashing around on stage. Those lucky enough to sit in the theatre’s ‘Splash Zone’ will get all the fun of a good soaking too!

This musical follows everyone’s favourite lovable ogre and his cheeky donkey side kick (or noble steed!). This unlikely fairytale is filled with magical characters yet laugh a minute characters such as Puss in Boots, the Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio that will capture the hearts and imaginations of all audience members!

Shrek is suitable for children 5+


Another musical filled with magic (really!) for all the family. Based on the much loved Roald Dahl Children’s novel of the same name, Matilda is a story about misfit young girl who discovers she has magical powers. The on stage effects will wow both adults and children!

Mamma Mia

One of the most popular musicals on stage today, Mamma Mia is filled with fun and frolics! Based on the music of the notorious pop band ABBA, Mamma Mia follows the endearing story of a young lady preparing to marry her Beau on a Greek island. With classic hits like “Money Money Money” and “Dancing Queen”, Mamma Mia has audience members singing and dancing in their seats!

The Lion King 

The Lion King
The lion cub Simba’s tale is one that many people already know and love from the Disney film of the same name. This on stage adaptation of the 1994 smash hit animation is no disappointment, with critics even labelling the onstage show as more iconic than the movie! The show boasts breathtaking African landscapes as scenery, vast animal puppets, vibrant costumes and enchanting African rhythms that will encapsulate all audience members. 

  The Lion King is a must see!
