Introduction

Whenever friends which museum in Singapore they should visit first, the ArtScience Museum almost always comes up in our recommendation.  Besides, its iconic lotus-inspired architecture beside Marina Bay Sands, every visit feels refreshingly different because they have rotating and different exhibitions throughout the year.

Unlike traditional museums where permanent collections remain largely unchanged, the ArtScience Museum constantly evolves with rotating exhibitions that blend science, technology, history, culture and immersive digital experiences. One visit might transport you into a world of giant insects viewed through extraordinary macro photography, while another explores artificial intelligence, sustainability or interactive digital art.

This guide combines those experiences into one comprehensive resource so you can better decide how to spend your own visit.

Our Experience

Walking through the  ArtScience Museum felt like stepping into several completely different worlds under one roof; different from a conventional gallery.

Some exhibitions encouraged quiet observation, while others invited us to interact, experiment and immerse ourselves in the displays. We appreciated how every gallery seemed carefully designed to evoke curiosity rather than simply present information.

What stood out most was the pacing. Even during busier periods, many galleries encouraged visitors to slow down and absorb the details instead of rushing from one display to the next. We often found ourselves spending far longer inside than originally planned because each exhibition naturally led into another fascinating discovery.

The museum is not a place you simply "complete." Its constantly changing exhibitions make it worth returning to, especially if you're visiting Singapore again in the future.

About the ArtScience Museum

Located within Marina Bay Sands, the ArtScience Museum first opened in 2011 and has since become one of Singapore's most recognisable cultural landmarks. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, its distinctive lotus-inspired structure symbolises the welcoming hand that collects rainwater and light, perfectly complementing the surrounding Marina Bay skyline.

Rather than focusing on one discipline, the museum explores the relationship between art, science, technology, design and innovation through both permanent collaborations and regularly changing international exhibitions.

Depending on when you visit, you'll often find exhibitions covering topics ranging from natural history and environmental conservation to digital technology, contemporary art and immersive multimedia experiences.

Why Visit?

  • One of Singapore's most distinctive museum experiences.
  • Rotating exhibitions mean every visit can be different.
  • Excellent balance between education and entertainment.
  • Suitable for couples, solo travellers and families.
  • Located within walking distance of several major Marina Bay attractions.
  • Beautiful architecture both inside and outside.

Even if museums aren't normally your favourite attraction, the ArtScience Museum has a way of making complex ideas accessible through engaging storytelling and immersive presentation. It's one of those places where curiosity naturally takes over.

Planning Your Visit

One lesson we learnt after multiple visits is not to underestimate how much time you'll need. While it's possible to see everything quickly, doing so means missing many of the fascinating details hidden throughout each exhibition.

Before arriving, it's worth checking which temporary exhibitions are currently running since the lineup changes throughout the year. Ticket options also vary depending on which exhibitions you choose to visit, making a little planning worthwhile.

We also recommend arriving earlier in the day if you hope to photograph quieter galleries or intend to explore nearby attractions afterwards. Since the museum sits within Marina Bay Sands, it's easy to combine your visit with shopping, dining, the observation deck or an evening walk around Marina Bay.

Our ArtScience Museum Journey

Here's a look back at the exhibitions we've experienced so far, in the order we discovered them.

Visit One: Insects: Microsculptures Magnified

Our ArtScience Museum journey began with Insects: Microsculptures Magnified, an exhibition that completely changed the way we looked at some of nature's smallest creatures.

Every photograph revealed an entirely different world of insects: tiny hairs, intricate wing patterns and vibrant colours that are almost impossible to appreciate with the naked eye. Instead of simply documenting insects, the exhibition transformed them into remarkable works of art and it was also very informational.

It was not just a photography exhibition but an informative one where the the scientific insights added valuable context, helping us better understand the important role insects play in ecosystems around the world. We found ourselves slowing down to read the displays just as much as we admired the images themselves.

🌿 Travelbytez Verdict

This exhibition surprised us in the best possible way. Beautifully presented, educational without feeling overwhelming and visually stunning from beginning to end, it remains one of our favourite exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum.

Perfect For: Nature lovers, photographers, curious minds and anyone who enjoys discovering the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary.

Visit Two: NOX: Confessions of a Machine

After discovering the hidden beauty of the natural world in Insects: Microsculptures Magnified, we stepped into a future shaped by artificial intelligence, automation and thought-provoking questions about the relationship between humans and machines.

NOX: Confessions of a Machine places you within a fictional smart city where sentient autonomous vehicles begin developing emotions that affect their ability to perform their duties. Visitors were invited to take on the role of trainee therapists, making decisions that influence the journey of these AI-powered machines.

What stood out to us wasn't flashy technology or elaborate visual effects, but the questions the exhibition quietly asked. As we progressed through each space, it became less about repairing machines and more about reflecting on empathy, responsibility and the increasingly blurred line between artificial intelligence and humanity. It encouraged us to consider how technology might evolve in the future, and what role we may ultimately play within that world.

The exhibition unfolds at a slower pace than some of the museum's more interactive experiences, allowing plenty of time to absorb the storytelling, cinematic environments and interactive elements. Rather than rushing through each room, we found ourselves stopping to think about the choices we were making and the broader ideas they represented.

🌿 Travelbytez Verdict

NOX: Confessions of a Machine offers a very different experience from many exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum. It's thoughtful, immersive and raises questions that stay with you long after you've left the gallery.

Perfect For: Science fiction fans, technology enthusiasts, visitors interested in artificial intelligence, and anyone who enjoys immersive storytelling with meaningful themes.

Visit Three: teamLab Future World

Our third visit marked a noticeable shift in our ArtScience Museum journey. After exploring the hidden beauty of insects and reflecting on the ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence, it was time for something altogether more playful. teamLab Future World invited us to stop observing and start participating, transforming us from visitors into part of the artwork itself.

Created by the renowned Japanese art collective teamLab, this permanent exhibition celebrates the connection between people, technology and creativity. Every section in the exhibition responds to movement and interaction, meaning no two visits are ever exactly the same. Rather than standing behind barriers, we found ourselves colouring sea creatures that later swam across enormous digital oceans, launching paper aeroplanes, and watching dazzling installations respond as people moved through the space. It was a reminder that art can be something you experience, not simply something you look at.

One of our favourite moments was stepping into Crystal Universe. Surrounded by thousands of suspended LED lights that constantly shifted in colour and pattern, the installation created an almost dreamlike atmosphere. Even after taking a few photographs, we found ourselves putting our cameras away just to appreciate the experience unfolding around us.

What we enjoyed most was the balance the exhibition managed to achieve. Some installations encouraged creativity, others invited exploration and play, while a few simply encouraged us to slow down and appreciate the ever-changing digital landscapes. It captured that rare childlike curiosity that adults often forget they still have.

🌿 Travelbytez Verdict

Out of all the exhibitions we've explored so far, teamLab Future World was the one that left us smiling the most. It's imaginative, interactive and genuinely fun, making it easy to understand why it remains one of the ArtScience Museum's signature experiences.

Perfect For: Families, couples, photographers, digital art enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys interactive experiences.

Visit Four: Another World Is Possible

Our most recent visit felt noticeably different from the previous three. While earlier exhibitions encouraged us to admire nature, question technology or simply play, Another World Is Possible invited us to pause and reflect on the future itself. Rather than offering straightforward answers, it presented a collection of contemporary artworks exploring hope, climate, community and the choices that shape tomorrow.

We found ourselves spending more time reading, thinking and discussing the ideas behind each installation. Every artwork approached the central theme from a different perspective, reminding us that imagining a better future isn't about one single solution but about countless individual possibilities coming together.

Although it wasn't the most interactive exhibition we visited, it was arguably one of the most thought-provoking. Instead of relying on spectacle, it encouraged quiet reflection and meaningful conversations long after we had left the museum.

Looking back, it felt like a fitting conclusion to our ArtScience Museum journey so far. After exploring nature, technology and digital creativity across our earlier visits, this exhibition challenged us to consider how those ideas connect to the wider world and the future we are all helping to shape.

🌿 Travelbytez Verdict

Another World Is Possible demonstrates that the ArtScience Museum isn't only about immersive digital installations. It's equally capable of presenting exhibitions that encourage reflection, inspire discussion and leave a lasting impression through ideas rather than technology alone.

Perfect For: Contemporary art lovers, returning visitors, students and anyone who enjoys exhibitions that inspire conversation and reflection.

Looking Back Across Our Visits

Looking back across our four visits, what stands out most is just how different each experience has been. Rather than following a single formula, every exhibition approached the relationship between art, science and humanity from its own unique perspective. One visit revealed extraordinary beauty hidden within the natural world, another explored our evolving relationship with artificial intelligence, while the next encouraged us to rediscover creativity through interactive digital art. Most recently, we left reflecting on the future we want to create together.

That's one of the reasons we've come to appreciate the ArtScience Museum so much. It's not somewhere you visit once and feel you've seen everything. With rotating exhibitions alongside permanent favourites like teamLab Future World, every return visit offers the opportunity to experience something entirely new.

If you're planning your own visit, we've put together a separate guide covering everything you need to know before you go. This includes tickets, opening hours, the best time to visit, photography tips, accessibility, and practical advice from our own experiences.
