My Peranakan Spice Box @ Toa Payoh Central (Interchange) [Closed/Moved]

I've been to this quaint little cafe-life eatery hidden in a corner about 2 times and the Peranakan cuisine is nice at a reasonable price. There is no GST and service charge (additional 17% to the bill). This eatery has an open-air concept so don't go expecting air-conditioning. You get natural breeze (if any on that day) and ceiling fans.air-conditioning.

This eatery is tucked away behind the Singtel Retail shop along with other nice looking eateries selling noodles and roast duck, or chicken rice. Of the 2 times that I have been there I had the Stewed Pork Rice, which is really yummy but not so good if you are on a diet as it uses fatty pork meat stewed for a long time to achieve its melt in the mouth experience. Reminds me of my Peranakan grandma's cooking. The Stewed Pork La Main looks just as good. There are other typical Peranakan dishes such as Buah Keluak, Chap Chye (Peranakan mixed veggies), Babi Pongteh, Babi Pongteh etc...

Preparing Peranakan cuisine tends to be a tedious affair from the condiments to the main ingredient(s). If you don't know already, Peranakan cuisine is a fusion of Chinese ingredients with Malay influence. Definitely worth a try! It's making me hungry already.
