Skiing in France

France is known for its beautiful slopes which are perfect for skiing. The Alps is the most famous chain of mountains, where ski stations and companies find most of their clients in winter. With good snow (which is powdery and normal - perfect for skiing), good tourists services, good weather and high : that is what the Alps offer. People say you can also ski in the Pyrénées mountains in the South of France, but most of the people go to the Alps.

Each year, I go regularly to ski either during the Christmas period or Easter Holidays. I usually go to the Alps in the ski station La Plagne. Many ski resorts have found their fame and possess their own kind of charm, attracting a different type of crowd. To name a few are Courchevel , Meribel, La Plagne, Tignes, Val d'Isere, Les Arcs etc...

There are even Club Meds implanted in some of the ski resorts like La Plagne for instance. You can also choose to rent a small chalet/flat during your stay, the rental usually starts on Saturday and ends on Saturday.

There are many different kinds of slopes which are catered to your capability level and whether you want to ski or snowboard. You do not need to bring your own equipments, shops rent them and you can find them anywhere you go.

Skiing is actually very fun, besides France there are other countries (e.g. United-States (Colorado), Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc...) that offer skiing facilities too. So if you do not know where to go for you winter holidays, treat yourself to a ski week, it is not only fun, but the mountain pure air is also known to be very good, healthy and energizing.

  1. It's good to know that you can rent equipment on the spot. Even if you had your own the extra cost to check them onto a plane would cancel out the rental fee. Do most places also offer lessons for novices?

    1. Well, if you go in a Club Med, the equipments, the lessons and the ski pass are included into the price you pay.
But if you rent a chalet or a flat, you have to pay an extra fee for the lessons. But anyway whichever ski station or resort you go to, you will find ski lessons for all level from novice to expert. (by the ESF Ecole De Ski Français)

  2. I don't know why but I always forget that France also accesses the Alps. I think of Hungary or Sweden when I think of those mountains. Then again, my skiing skills are lacking so I don't think of tackling the Alps in any country!

    1. Yes there are very nice areas to discover and to enjoy. I went there a couple of times already and I enjoy it each time I have been there . It is roughly 7/8 hours by car, 2/3 by train (TGV). You cannot go by plane I think...
