Anker Soundcore Wakey Bluetooth Speaker With Wireless Charger Alarm Clock FM Radio

I was looking for a clock which could double up as a speaker and wireless charger, a quick look on Shopee and there were a couple of options to choose from with different price ranges. After shortlisting as couple of designs I liked, I narrowed it down to the Anker Soundcore Wakey Bluetooth Speaker which come with Wireless Charger, Alarm Clock, and FM Radio.

With 3 colors to choose form (the pink is simple so sweet looking) and a sleek minimalist design, aesthetically the Anker Soundcore Wakey Speaker appealed to me more than the rest. However, with a price tag of $129.90, it was a little too steep to actually buy it…. until it was on sale on Shopee!

I double checked (and practically stalked) the prices on Amazon, Lazada and Qoo10 – they were all selling it for the same $129.90, but Shopee had it (and at this time of writing still) at $97.81. That’s not even including the coins and vouchers you can use. So with lesser hesitation, I used my coins and vouchers and checked out. In the end, I got it for a mere $70! It was a happy buy. A happy sweet pink buy.

It is easy to set up. The only con is that you have to download the app and signup for an account to sync the clock, set the alarm etc… Of course if you just connected it via Bluetooth without the app, it would still connect and play your music for you with no fuss, you just won't be able set any alarms etc..

It’s good to note that when you are connected via Bluetooth on your mobile phone to the speaker, all sound is re-directed there as well, it needs to be un-linked once you’re done or else you would be hearing every sound your mobile phone makes on the speaker. That aside, sound is pretty solid and acceptable.

The entire front of the clock is covered by a speaker grill, which matches the colors of the speakers accordingly, and LEDs behind the mesh displaying the time can be adjusting to be quite bright (white light).

For me, the time presentation is a little odd: with the AM/PM being the same size as the numbers, it makes it harder to differentiate between the morning and evening as there is no spacing between the time and AM/PM, also the flashing colon between hours and minutes is distracting.

What I wished they would have is customizable font boldness and size for the clock. The LED time font is simply too thin and not striking enough to see from a distance (e.g. 1m away), I wish it were slightly more bold to make it easy to look at (or perhaps the black model would have been a better choices since it's more contrasting).

That said, the good news is that if you need absolute darkness to sleep, the Wakey has you covered. The brightness can be set to automatically adjust with the time of day, or you can manually adjust the LEDs. You can even turn them off altogether for that matter, and then tap any of its buttons at the bottom row to display the time for a few seconds.

As mentioned earlier you need to download the app and create an account to sync / show the time and set the alarms. Through the app (only), you can set multiple alarms, which can be set to anytime of the day (of the week with about 10 alarm tones to choose from or your choice of radio station. In addition, you can individually set the number of snoozes that are allowed for each alarm and the length of the snooze.

There’s even this function for bedtime which offers white noise mode. It consists of with 11 ambient sounds ranging from gentle rain to (totally not relaxing) freight train noise. This is a function I hardly use (and understand it's purpose), no noise (or some soft music) is better than white noise for me to fall asleep.

Besides being able to charge wirelessly, there are also 2 additional USB ports at the back of the device to slot in your cables and charge other devices. So you are able to charge 3 devices at a time, which is pretty cool. The only thing to note is the wireless charging can make the phone really hot.

All in all I am pretty happy with my buy. 😀

Do note that this review is my experience shopping for the Anker Soundcore Wakey Bluetooth Speaker With Wireless Charger Alarm Clock FM Radio from Shopee, and not on all the products and shops that are available on Shopee. When purchasing, please conduct your own research before making the payment.
