Koi Kei Bakery: Handmade Phoenix Egg Roll with Seaweed and Pork Floss

Koi Kei Bakery: Handmade Phoenix Egg Roll with Seaweed and Pork Floss
It’s been some time since I reviewed souvenir food! Mgln came back from her Hong Kong trip and she brought back a box of handmade phoenix egg roll with seaweed and pork floss from Koi Kei Bakery! It was a sweet gesture and well, the eggrolls were really nice (they were gone in 3 days)!

When you first take a bite, you are greeted with the sweetness of the eggroll followed by that familiar crunchiness (similar to ‘love letters’). As you pull the eggroll away from your mouth, the seaweed wrapped within give it a little resistance as you tear the eggroll away from your mouth. Soon the sweetness and savory-ness of the seaweed and pork floss soon mingle in your mouth and end off in a delightful blended flavor.

Not only did they taste a little like thinly crisp ‘love letters’ (in flavor), the tinge of savory from the seaweed and chew from the pork floss gave it an interesting consistency – between crunchy and slightly chewy. It might take some getting used to, having sweet and savory together, but it is one that I enjoyed.

Curious about the bakery, I did a little Google and learned that Koi Kei Bakery is quite popular as a souvenir food shop and has outlets not only in Macau, Hong Kong, and even Singapore. Now I know where and what to buy if I am ever in Hong Kong / Macau and need to buy some food souvenirs!
