The
Seoul Lantern Festival is an annual event held throughout from the first Friday of November to the third Sunday of November, and best of all is that it is free!😊
Since its inception in 2009, it has become one of the representative festivals in
Seoul, and is certainly quite a sight with all the beautiful larger than life lanterns illuminating in the darkness of the night. The lanterns are along the 1.3km
Cheonggyecheon Stream with various things to see stretching all the way from
Cheonggye Plaza and
Supyogyo Bridge.
Each year has a different theme, so visitors will have the opportunity to admire the fabulous lantern exhibitions and artworks that show the historical, cultural, and the present along the stream.
In addition to the colorful lantern displays, there are various hands-on programs and events where visitors can partake: the programs include putting up and floating wishing lanterns and writing your wishes for New Year. Remember to head over to Gwangtonggyo Bridge and Gwanggyo Bridge gallery if you want to participate!

[Seoul Lantern Festival 2016]
We had the opportunity to visit the
Lantern Festival after an
Italian dinner in the vicinity with C’s friend. The pretty larger than life lanterns were certainly a sight to behold, illuminating their colorfulness against the darkness of the night. It seems that we were on the “wrong” side of the stream as most of the lanterns has their backs facing us. 😂

There was a section that displayed lanterns in relation to the
Pyeongchang Olympics, as well as other interesting lanterns. Admiring the lanterns while walking along the stream with a bunch of people (if was still bustling with activity after 8pm) certainly added to the festivity.
